We were delighted to read about the £10m investment by Northumbrian Water to improve water quality.

The money will be used to replace the current water treatment plant at Fowberry near Wooler, which was built in the 1960s.

The £10m is part of a £25m investment to improve water quality for local communities and includes the treatment works under construction near Berwick.

Leader for the Labour group Susan Dungworth said: “It’s excellent to hear about this investment which will not only improve water quality but it will make supplies more sustainable for the future and enable Northumbrian Water to reach its 2027 net zero carbon target  by processing water in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way.

“We would like to pay tribute to all those at Northumbrian Water who have been working on this fantastic scheme.

“They’re working hard to maintain and improve our water supply and quality while maintaining and improving the environment at the same time.

“We can take water for granted, but good quality water is a vital part of people’s health and is something that Labour as a party is very much committed to.”
