There has been further proof that the clean break that we might have expected with the appointment of a new leader is, sadly not happening.
In fact, if anything, the situation appears to be worse.
Far from the normal process of any in-year changes to committee membership being agreed and shared with all leaders of each political group in the council, we are now seeing new committee members being announced.
We’re seeing allies of the new leader being appointed to paid positions in committees, changes in committee membership, all without the new leader extending the usual courtesy of discussion and agreement with all political group leaders beforehand.
So today there was a spectacle and a series of surprises which have left us doubting whether this leader is any better than his predecessor.
We were hoping that this new leader would try and put right the wrongs created by his predecessor. So far that has not happened.
The probation period is not going well in our view. It appears what we have is more of the same.
