Northumberland Labour has criticised Tory mismanagement of the NHS.

After waiting lists and lengths of waits were at an all time low under Labour, the Tories have allowed the waits and waiting times to rise again, causing distress for many people and putting NHS staff under additional strain.

But, rather than give the NHS the support it needs, new Health Secretary Sajid Javid is considering a reorganisation; the absolute last thing the NHS needs, says Labour.

Northumberland Labours shadow cabinet member for adult wellbeing Mark Purvis said: “The Tories’ management of the health service is frankly shocking. The NHS has been brilliant throughout the pandemic, despite the government, not because of it.

“Our own local trust is a high performing one, but even they are feeling the pressure.

“And NHS staff have been insulted with a paltry pay offer after the valiant efforts staff have made during the pandemic.

“Before the pandemic, waiting lists and waiting times were already increasing and now they have spiralled out of control. It’s expected to take years for the service to recover and deal with the backlog of patients who may be worried or in pain.

“The NHS is precious and it needs to be supported. It doesn’t need yet another reorganisation at this crucial time just because the new person in charge wants to out their stamp on it.”
