While the county has made a start, Northumberland residents need much more help to tackle the climate emergency, says Labour.

Northumberland Labour leader Scott Dickinson said: “We welcome the offer of free solar panels, air source heat pumps and insulation but a combined household income of £30,000 is comparatively low in this day and age. Much more needs to be done to make these green technologies available to more Northumberlanders.

“We sincerely hope that people who are eligible take this offer up and it can be extended to more people. The climate crisis needs to be tackled her and now but many families just won’t be able to afford green technology without some help from the government.”

The current offer of free solar panels, air source heat pumps and external wall insulation applies to people:

  • who own their own home
  • have a household income of below £30,000
  • whose homes has an EPC rating of D or below
