Labour’s Prudhoe North councillor Angie Scott has given a cautious welcome to the news of Prudhoe’s Tyne Riverside Park cafe reopening.

She said: “I have been working tirelessly with the council on getting cafe reopened after it had to close because of the Covid lockdown.

“Recent reports in the Hexham Courant were misleading, to say the least but I would like to assure local people and potential visitors that I am working with officers at Northumberland County Council on this and our aim is to reopen the cafe, which will be run by the council, as soon as safely and practically possible.

“I have always stressed to the council that, like many other country park cafes, the council need to run Tyne Riverside Park cafe to offer local people employment opportunities in catering, hospitality and customer service at decent rates of pay.

“I am very pleased that the council have taken this approach and am looking forward to continuing my work with officers to make this a happen. I know the park is very much valued and appreciated by local people and visitors and a functioning cafe and information service would complement the park.

“I would like to assure local people that I will work with the council’s officers and communications team to keep them informed about progress in the weeks leading up to the reopening.”
