@The Hub – Employment and Skills Advice on Prudhoe Front Street from Friday, 10th June 2022.

When I was campaigning to represent Prudhoe North as a County Councillor for Northumberland County Council, parents and young people repeatedly expressed their concerns that there was no local access to careers guidance, information on training opportunities and help to find apprenticeships and jobs.  I promised the people of Prudhoe that I would not let our young people be left behind and would help them to realise their full potential by bringing the services to Prudhoe.

I researched services that other towns were offering to their young people and found that Brighton had a Youth Employment Hub which was an exciting new space in the heart of Kemptown village where friendly and knowledgeable staff were on hand to help young people consider options, make a plan of action and support them to achieve their goals.  This was what we needed in Prudhoe.

Working with Kevin Higgins, Employability and Regeneration Service, Northumberland County Council (NCC), Kay Vout (NCC) and Caroline Warburton, Chair Prudhoe Community Partnership, (PCP) we have made it a reality.

The service will be based at the Prudhoe Community Hub which is part of Prudhoe Community Partnership (PCP). This was previously the Hays Travel Shop and is in the heart of our community.  Initially, one day every week, staff will be on hand to help and there will be a wide range of services and activities.

National Careers Service will be attending weekly also Careers Support attending monthly, Northumberland Apprentices Scheme and NHS Apprentices Scheme will attend on a regular basis.

Local Employers will be invited also to publicise what jobs or Apprentices Schemes the have to offer.

An opportunity to sign post those who require longer term basic skill need to Community Action Northumberland (CAN) who already offer a service on a Friday in the Spetchells.

Should you require more details, NCC can give you full details of the services to be offered.
