Prudhoe, Northumberland – [20/9/24] – Prudhoe has reached a significant milestone in its journey to attract substantial investment, with £3 million earmarked for the town following the approval of its ambitious ‘Place Plan’ as part of the £21 million Borderlands Place Programme in Northumberland.
Endorsed by the Borderlands Partnership during a recent meeting of its Partnership Board, Prudhoe’s Place Plan sets out a bold vision to grow, renew, and connect the town. The Plan includes a series of transformative projects aimed at revitalizing key areas, including Front Street enhancements, the improvement of youth and community facilities, and the repurposing of heritage assets.
The Borderlands Place Programme, a collaboration between five local authorities, aims to deliver sustainable economic growth across the Borderlands region, with £3 million specifically allocated for Prudhoe to implement its Place Plan. The town now looks ahead to further developing these key projects through the creation of a Town Investment Plan, which will focus on securing additional funding from the Borderlands Programme and Northumberland County Council.
Angie Scott, County Councillor for Prudhoe North, hailed the approval of the Place Plan, commenting:
“This £3 million investment is a fantastic boost for Prudhoe. The Place Plan will enable us to revitalise Front Street, enhance community facilities, and breathe new life into our town’s heritage. This is an exciting step toward securing the future of Prudhoe and delivering real benefits for our residents and businesses.”
Among the projects outlined in the Place Plan, three high street-based initiatives will now move into a more detailed planning stage, with a view to securing Borderlands funding as part of the Town Investment Plan. A broader pipeline of projects is also being developed to support Prudhoe’s growth and connectivity in the years to come.
