New analysis from Northumberland Labour reveals 37,484 households will receive the £150 Warm Homes Discount this winter, as the Labour Government almost doubles the scheme to co ere more than 6 million families across the UK – now reaching 1 in five homes.
An additional 12,495 will receive the payment in Northumberland – meaning an estimated 12,495 more families in Northumberland will receive support this year.
Publishing the data, Northumberland Labour’s Leader Scott Dickinson said,
“Labour is helping local families get through the cost of living crisis. It might be the height of summer, but I know families are already looking nervously at winter fuel bills – but with this additional support 37,484 households in Northumberland will now receive an extra £150 to help cover their costs. That’s real help, that makes a real difference. And that’s the sort of change Labour was elected to deliver.
“Through our mission for clean power, and the support announced today, this Labour government is putting money back in the pockets of working people.”
Announcing the extension of the scheme Prime Minister Keir Starmer said:
“I know families are still struggling with the cost of living, and I know the fear that comes with not being able to afford your next bill.
“Providing security and peace of mind for working people is deeply personal to me as Prime Minister and foundational for the Plan for Change. I have no doubt that, like rolling out free school meals, breakfast clubs and childcare support, extending this £150 energy bills support to millions more families will make a real difference.”
Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said:
“Millions of families will get vital support with the cost of living this coming winter, demonstrating this government’s commitment to put money in people’s pockets through our Plan for Change.”
Labour is also accelerating proposals to introduce a debt relief scheme, which would target unsustainable debt built up by households in Northumberland during the energy crisis. This would help to cut the costs of servicing bad debt, which currently contributes to higher bills for all bill payers.
This additional support for households complements the government’s mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower, delivering energy security and bringing down bills for good.
