Staycations are in the news at the moment. And we’re being reminded about which places are riskier than others in terms of Covid-19 cases.

Deputy leader of the Labour Group Scott Dickinson said: “The picture is changing all the time but at the moment there are measures in place in Leicester, Greater Manchester, West Yorkshire and Aberdeen.

“I’m sure people are following the news to see if anywhere else if affected, particularly if they’re thinking of taking a holiday there.

“It’s vital to check if there are any restrictions in place, maintain social distancing, wear face coverings and wash your hands regularly.

“That said, we are at a loss as to why the chief executive of the Council, Daljit Lally, has been put on extended leave, especially at this critical time in the pandemic.

“Daljit was carrying out vital work advising government and regional bodies and keeping communities safe.

“To us this does not sound like the time to be putting her on extended leave for what we understand is whistleblowing about what she saw as wrongdoing in the Council.

“We are still waiting for an explanation about this but, as far as we can see, this is not time to be losing a person with considerable skills when she is most needed.”
