Northumberland Labour welcomes the investment in Blyth: a project which began when they led the council.

Leader Scott Dickinson said: “It’s absolutely brilliant to read that Blyth is getting the investment it so richly deserves. The Labour-led council, working with Blyth Town Council and the Blyth Town Board drove this project.

“It’s sad that the Tories now in power have a short memory. When they came to power they cynically did everything they could to disinvest in Blyth. They weren’t interested in the town.

“In opposition, we having been trying to say to the council that Blyth badly needs investment, but in the early days, they weren’t listening.

“But now we have a Tory MP in the town, he and the Tory council are quite happy to take the credit for something which was none of their doing. They’ve ridden on the coattails of the years of sheer hard work by the then Labour-led council, Blyth Town Council, and the Blyth Town Board.

“We’re pleased that, at long last, this project is happening, but there should be some acknowledgment of the time and effort many dedicated people put in to get it off the ground.”
