Labour will rebuild and improve upon what the Tories have spent 12 years tearing apart, says Northumberland Labour

Northumberland Labour says a Labour government will rebuild and improve upon vital services which the Conservative government has taken 12 years tearing apart.

Deputy leader of Northumberland Labour Liz Simpson said: “Under the previous Labour government with a Prime Minister and many cabinet members representing people in the North, health and social care worked better for people than it ever did under a Tory government.

“If you want an example of levelling up, that was it.  The Labour government brought in four hour waits in accident and emergency, two weeks cancer waits, 18 week referral to treatment targets and set up support for children and families in Sure Start centres. The Labour government saw what needed doing and did it in the interests of the people it was serving.

“Since 2010, these standards have deteriorated. Our fabulous local health and social care services work tirelessly to try and maintain standards despite, not because of, any help from the government.

“A Labour government will put health and social care back where it belongs. These are cherished services which our county and our nation holds dear. A nation with a sense of fairness knows sick and vulnerable people need to be cared for by professional, appropriately trained, and rewarded people supported by the equipment and facilities they need.

“Labour will ensure mental health services are properly financed and resourced so people needing mental health support can get it when they need it.

“Labour will make social care an appropriately rewarded job with career prospects to attract people into the service.”
