Northumberland Labour says the current financial crisis is of the government’s own making.

Deputy Leader Liz Simpson said: “For a party which prides itself on sound financial control it looks like this lot have totally lost the plot.

“They are having the absolute worst kind of spending spree to reward their already rich mates while many of us are wondering how on earth we’re going eat and stay warm this winter.

“Anyone else would be embarrassed that the Bank of England had to step in steady the ship but no, they’re happy to blame it on anyone but themselves. Surely we can do better than this?

“The sad thing is that it is all self-inflicted. This government is too busy experimenting with its hopeless financial ideas to see how ordinary people’s lives are being affected day to day..

“It’s making us a laughing stock abroad and making the government look exactly like what it is; a government whose ideas are getting more ridiculous by the minute.

“I’m sure Northumbrians just want to earn enough money to be able to pay their own way, have decent working conditions, greener homes that cost less to run, good schools and health and communities that are safe to live in.

“These things are what we should expect in a modern country in 2022. Labour is determined to put the country back onto a more stable footing and ensure that the country works for everyone, not just a privileged few.”
