Northumberland Labour says only Labour is committed to long-term solutions to make the UK greener and cleaner.

Northumberland Labour’s shadow cabinet member for business Lynne Grimshaw said: “People are sick and tired of rising energy bills while energy provision is in the hands of dictators and multi-billion pound energy companies.

“This is all the wrong way round. Energy needs to be made affordable and homes need to be greener and cheaper to run.

“It can’t be right that Northumbrians are forced to choose between heating and eating while energy giants like Shell are making billions in record profits.

“Northumberland Labour supports Labour’s creation of Great British Energy; a national champion in clean power generation. Many countries have public energy-generating companies like EDF in France and Vattenfall in Sweden. It’s high time we had our own here.

“By investing in more offshore wind farms and other renewable sources of power we can cut energy bills for British families and allow the UK to profit from exporting surplus energy

“By tackling the energy crisis we can also tackle climate change and look forward to a greener, cleaner future for our children.”
