Northumberland Labour says Labour’s five manifesto missions will mark the end of 13 years of decline and transform the county as well as the country into a place that works for everyone.

Leader Scott Dickinson said: “Never before have I seen the neglect and arrogance of a government which has been quite happy to let this country slip down the world rankings in so many areas, and it’s ordinary people who are paying the price.

“Until this government came into power children were better off, were healthier and lived longer than their parents. This is no longer the case.

“People not being able to get on the housing ladder or afford increasingly exorbitant rents, not being able to feed their families or heat their homes, not being able to be seen quickly if they have a health problem are this government’s political choices, make no mistake about it.

“If you put people before profit, this is what happens. Profit is important if it’s used to invest in things which make life better but not if it’s just lining the already well-lined pockets of a few people.”

Labour’s five missions are:

  • secure the highest sustained growth in the G7
  • make Britain a clean energy superpower
  • build an NHS fit for the future
  • break down the barriers to opportunity at every stage
  • make Britain’s streets safe

Scott added: “So much damage has been done to the country but more importantly to the people who live here. It will take a massive effort to turn this around, but Labour is determined to make the country a place that provides a good standard of living and opportunities for all.”
