Labour Councillor for Amble Terry Clark has raised concerns following many complaints from residents and his own reservations based on what he describes as “total lack of communication from Advance during sale”.

Advance the arm’s length company of Northumberland County Council often operating in a way that feels secretive have come under fire for the sale of Amble public assets with no local consultation.

In previous releases concerns were raised about the Amble Links Caravan site that was a good rental asset for Advance being sold, it wasn’t only about the land and revenue stream being sold off but also the protections of the local people’s access to the Gym and Swimming facilities that were in the lease agreement.

Following the sale, it has come to light that a large green open space used by many known locally as the Lord Mayors Field is set to have its covenant removed as it was part of the Land sale. Meaning that all protections of designated green space removed and potential for anything to be put on it is causing concerns amongst locals.

Cllr Clark said: “Amble has been almost overwhelmed with recent developments that often see local people priced out of the market. I am all in favour of house building, where its needed and affordable for local communities. I have welcomed some recent developments but remain concerned about the local affordability and Amble fast becoming a holiday home destination over and above the needs of local people.

“I think the uncertainty over the Lord Mayors Field is causing unneeded anxiety and concern to local people, many of who, like me received no consultation on these public assets being sold off or indeed those with protected status being included.

“I’ve tried via Advance to get answers and I’ve written to the County Council, I need answers and the community need answers. I hope the Council will engage with me to either provide reassurance or just basic information”.
